About the site:
This site has two purposes. The first is to host a weekly blog talking about whatever is on my mind - it will likely often be about martial arts, expressive arts, thesis writing, and mental health (I've struggled with depression since I was 13). The second purpose is to provide a online location for me to sell my art work. I have recently gotten back into painting, and would love sell some of them so that I can buy more supplies.
If you are interested in purchasing a painting, please contact me at danielle.arin.rice@gmail.com. Prices do not include shipping.
About me:
I completed a BFA from NSCAD University in 2013, and am currently working to complete a Master's degree in Expressive Arts Therapy from the European Graduate School. I began studying martial arts in September 2013, at the same time that I started studying Expressive Arts Therapy. There was so much overlap in the philosophy and teaching approach between the two that I had no choice but to write my Master's thesis on bringing them together and using martial arts in my Expressive Arts practice. I train at Valkyrie Western Martial Arts Assembly in Vancouver, BC, Canada, where the interdisciplinary approach means that I am becoming increasingly skilled in rapier fencing, wrestling/grappling, boxing and knife-fighting, and have a smattering of skills in a variety of other fighting disciplines. I also do casual work as a role-player for the Vancouver Police Department. This generally involves taking on roles in various training scenarios and being a live-body training dummy for drills.
For more info on me and where I'm coming from, please read some of my blog posts, particularly the first one.
